The Palatine dialect in the broader sense extends far beyond the area that is now considered the Palatinate. Here in this book the Palatine in the narrower sense is to be treated, namely the dialects in the area corresponding to the former Bavarian Rhine Palatinate with the districts of St. Ingbert and Homburg, which still belonged to the “Pfalz” until 1919, as well as some places in the former district of St. Wendel. In addition, on the right bank of the Rhine, the area around Schwetzingen, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Weinheim, which belongs to Baden, as well as the area around Lampertheim and Viernheim in Hesse.
